Traveling with a dog?

I'm usually on the independant traveler side, and usually wind up being a solo female traveler. I'm looking at going back to Europe for (at least) a year or so, and I've recently adopted a basset hound. If I wind up spending more than say 3 mos. there, I want to take him with me. But, I'm not comfortable checking him as "baggage" or the thought of having the poor boy in quarantine for a month. (I know that with proper documentation that shouldn't be a problem). I'd primarily be based out of Czech Republic.

Has anyone relocated with their beloved fido? Or, have you ever taken fido on a vacation with you? Thanks for the info!

I know that not all countries require quarantines...not sure about Czech Republic though. Also, dogs can ride in the cabin of the plane if they stay in their carries that fit under the seat. I know some people who took their Boston Terriers to France and Switzerland from California this way. However, I bet a Basset Hound would have to travel in the hold due to size.
