I know this may not be considered a revolutionary travel adventure but it is my first major real adventure where I will be traveling just to travel. No moving from one city to anther or weekend trips.... I will be traveling from Santa Monica California to Jacksonville, Florida than to the Keys and soon…. No more delays I've been putting this off for far too long. I'm making my plans and persistently trying to gain the little things I need to ensure my trip is successful and I'm safe.
... and all will be documented at www.sierranighttide.com/
Hopefully live soon!!!!

any suggestions, ideas, tips, misc?

Re: My first 'real' travel trip
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 9:38 AMLast year I bought a mini SUV (with a hitch) specifically for my trip. Than my job offered me a new position that I just couldn’t turn down. However, my job has become stale and it’s not as rewarding as it first was…. Plus I have chronic asthma and the government banned the new production of the only medicine that works for me (yes I’ve tried everything and natural healthcare is outrageously expensive) so as soon as it’s gone my expiration date stops crawling and starts running…..
I’ve been doing mini camping trips (actual camping and car camping) for the previous year. I’ve researched everything American nomad traveling including war chalking, laws, dangers, temporary working and making money from my website to finance my travels. I've been networking and I’ve also been taking martial arts on and off for the previous year as a extra helping of self protection confidence.
I’m ready :)

Re: My first 'real' travel trip
Mon, November 5, 2007 - 10:00 PMHey, chic!
Congrats to you. Don't worry about any of your trips being considered revolutionary travel adventure! Any and every trip can be an adventure. You're being bold and taking a step. Period.
There's a quote, I can't find right now, but it's something about "The very most important thing to bring on your travels is a sense of humor" Ah, the truth! Things will NEED to be laughed at, and often the times that are challenging or "gone wrong" are going to be the best stories to relate to other people later.
Find some good travel quotations online and print them. Read them when you need to. There will be times when you might feel lonely or stressed. It might comfort you to have wisdom from others when you need it. Maybe make some kind of Plan B comfort, like "if I'm feeling ___, I will do/eat/call/go _____" Often creating something or remembering your purpose and finding an active way to involve yourself helps. I'm in Mexico right now, and these are things I am also telling myself :)
maybe make a travel book of important numbers and emergency contact info to keep in one place.
If you need a day or two off from camping, try couchsurfing.com
But, chic, you do sound ready! Have fun! -

Tue, November 6, 2007 - 9:17 AMI apologize for not calling or emailing you yesterday. If a possible collaboration is still possible I can talk later today.
Thank you for great advice. I hadn't thought of a travel emergency number book but will make one. I was just told by my web designer that my not even live yet website had 1400 hits in Oct woohoo! {happy dance}
