  if you currently have verizon wireless, they have a pretty good rental program. they fedex you the phone and you fedex it back (in a provided envelope) when you get home. You can even forward your own phone to that rental.

  i travel a lot, so i bought an unlocked cellphone abroad. you can then just buy a SIM card and minutes for each different country.

    You can also go to many places overseas and pay a nominal fee to have your phone unlocked. I think I paid 10 GBP in London. Probably a bit more than most places would charge. You can also get pre-paid sims in most countries, including the US now. Buy them overseas when you get them, or pay a bit more and get one mailed to your home in the US before you leave!

  I dont know about thailand... But it is better to carry a cell phone when you are traveling in India. it costs about 40 $ with connection and cell phone instrument. and keeps you connected with world.

    You can get cheap SIMS card in Thailand. Very easy, very cheap.
